As a little experiment, I've been advertising my work on gumtree.com. So have a few other photographers it seems.

Nestling alongside psychic mediums, mechanics and various scams snappers offer themselves up for weddings, portraits and 'time for prints'. In fact yesterday when I rejoined the cacophony of voices begging for work there were no fewer than 10 photographers all doing the same. The punter is of course spoilt for choice, if they are in fact there at all.

Unless the advert offers a hint of sexual promise ("tasteful nudes, I'll never publish them honest!") most adverts struggle to garner twenty views. And with so many of us with the same idea, who's betting that those hits are the competition searching through your site?
