About

I came into photography from a journalism background. For me the choice between sitting in the office or being at the centre of news was an obvious one and I switched my emphasis at university.

This attitude still informs my pictures. It has to be about news, it has to visually inspiring and it has to reinforce the work from the writer. I like it to mean something, so I keep close tabs on the causes and political issues that dominate Edinburgh, as well as seeking out new cultural trends before they become staid cliche.

I want work that will make a good picture and will resonate with the viewer beyond its frame. A photographer can't do this by simply turning up to the average photocall - by then it's too late - I consult with clients before the event to make sure we both know what's possible and how to stretch the concept to its limits.
